🇬🇧 Past tense of the verbs in -sti

If a verb ends in –sti in the infinitive, we remove –sti and add the endings as usual.

Šta ste juče jeli za doručak? Deca su jela ovsenu kašu, tata je jeo sendvič, a mama je jela ostatke.
What did you eat for breakfast? Children ate oatmeal, dad ate a sandwich, and mom ate leftovers.

sresti (to meet, bump into) – sreo, srela

– Juče smo sreli Petra u gradu. Vi ste sreli našu mamu.

Yesterday we met Petar downtown. You bumped into our mom.

 

pasti (fall down) – pao, pala

– Jabuka je pala sa drveta. Juče je pala strašna kiša.

An apple fell from the tree. There was terrible rain (fell) yesterday.

opasti (fall off) – opasti, opala

– Jesen je i lišće je opalo. Petru je opala kosa, pa  je ćelav.

It’s autumn and leaves fell off. Peter’s hair fell off, so he’s bold.

  • Tvoj sin je baš porastao, dugo ga nisam videla!

Your son has grown, I haven’t seen him for a long time!

 

ugristi (to bite): ugrizao, ugrizla

  • Ova mačka je ugrizla moju mamu za ruku.

This cat bit my mom’s hand.
